The Journal of NeuroVirology is dedicated to the molecular biology and pathogenesis of viruses that have an impact upon the nervous system. It provides a forum for the basic science aspects of neurovirology and virus-induced neurological disorders, and bridges the gap between basic and clinical research. Key areas include:

  • The molecular biology of neurotropic viruses;
  • Molecular mechanisms of virus-induced neurodegeneration of the nervous system;
  • Interaction of neurotropic viruses with cells from the nervous system;
  • Mechanisms of viral pathogenesis in the nervous system;
  • Mechanisms of tumorigenesis induced by viral and/or cellular oncogenes;
  • The clinical manifestations of viral diseases in the central nervous system.

JNV continues to publish papers authored by distinguished investigators and physicians working in the field of neurovirology. Past issues have been dedicated to the coverage of issues central to neurovirology, including HTLV-I and HAM/TSP, brain tumors, neuroAIDS, and chemokines. In 1996, journal distribution and the quality of publications earned JNV its first impact factor of 1.833 and ratings in the Virology and Neurosciences categories of 9/19 and 77/144, respectively. In 1997, the international success of the journal earned JNV an impact factor of 2.457 and increases to 8/14 and 51/149 in the Virology and Neurosciences categories, respectively.
